During KS3 pupils produce artwork in a range of media and on various themes. The Y7 theme is ‘Identity and Experience’, Y8 is ‘Objects and Environments’ and Y9 is ‘Nature and Design’. We develop our own schemes of work, and, being creative people, we often undertake new assignments with our pupils each year. During Y9 pupils may opt to continue their art education by studying our highly successful GCSE course.
At KS4 our students follow the AQA GCSE Fine Art course. Art staff tailor the course to suit the individual. During their course students produce several practical assignments. These include drawings, paintings, sculpture and a sketchbook of ideas and research. By February of Y11 students begin their art exam.
Our art pages contain detailed information on the KS3 course and also, available only for our art GCSE students and their parents, is a section of help and advice on our GCSE course. These pages contain photographs, videos, examples of work, exam information and much more.

Art homework at KS3 takes the form of a diary of a pupil’s art assignment. The assignment is the practical work which pupils complete in class. Each time a new assignment is begun in class every pupil pastes a new homework journal into their sketchbook. A section of the diary is completed after each lesson. The aim of this type of homework is to reinforce what has been learned in class in terms of understanding of the subject, literacy and self evaluation and target setting.
GCSE students are expected to complete sketchbook work at home. A sketchbook is required to be completed for each practical assignment undertaken in class, usually one per term. Examples of sketchbooks plus a full explanation of what should be included can be found in the GCSE pages of the art website.
