Courses

The course explores Drama as an art form that can be used as a means of expression and exploration. The course components help to foster and develop understanding of Drama techniques, genres and conventions; self-discipline, working with others, problem-solving and self-knowledge.

In Drama we aim to give children the chance to think about what it might be like to be somebody different, or to be in a very different situation to one they already know. We offer them the chance, in a safe environment, to explore possible ways of acting or behaving. Along the way they are developing skills in communication, co-operation and empathy. Children are also learning about all the ways that they can express themselves through drama.

Additional Information

The Drama course follows the Edexcel examination board. The course is assessed in 3 ways:

  • Two practical assessed units of work each of 6 hours in length conducted in lesson time

  • A Portfolio of written coursework between 3,000 and 6,000 words

  • Final Exam: a prepared Performance piece

Homework

Due to the nature of drama as a practical subject involving co-operation, regular homework is not set.
Occasional tasks may be set when necessary e.g. line-learning, preparation of materials/props/costumes, research etc.
