Course Information

Electronic Products equips students with the essential skills needed to design and manufacture a wide range of electronic devices. They will be taught the full production cycle from Computer Aided Design to practical realization. Students will learn the impact that electronics has on society and why it is an essential skill in the 21st century. Students will study the power and influence of global brands and how they use electronics to enhance human development.

During Year 10, students will follow a series of exciting modules in which they will each design and manufacture small electronic products. This will consist of designing and manufacturing printed circuit boards (PCB) and the cases used to house them. Students will also learn how to program intelligent PIC microchips using a PC and use these in products as varied as light installations and children’s’ games.
In Year 11 students focus on their coursework project where they design and manufacture a product of their choice.

Additional Information

The examination board followed is AQA. The final assessment consists of two parts:

Major Project Undertaken in Year 11 - 60% of the final mark
Terminal Examination - 40% of the final mark

All students will use Circuit Wizard CAD software and will be provided with a home copy for additional study.

Homework

Homework for year 10 is theory or practical based relating to the specific topics covered in the AQA Specification. All Year 11 homework is based on students coursework.
