Key Stage 3 | GCSE English | GCSE English Literature
Welcome to the English Department at Trinity Church of England High School. The staff within our department are committed to enabling all Trinity students access to a curriculum rich in diversity and opportunity. We pride ourselves in equipping students with skills that benefit them throughout their school career and beyond.
At Key Stage 3 we offer a programme of study which facilities students in the improvement of their English skills in a creative and innovative fashion. We aim to ignite our students' imagination and provide them with the skills to communicate their ideas. We encourage our students to become discerning readers by studying a wide a range of written material and analysing the writer's use of techniques. Our programme of study encompasses reading, writing and speaking and listening with termly assessments clearly linked with the criteria of each unit. Termly assessments are used to monitor our students' progress so that we may provide each individual guidance on how they may move forward and improve.
At Key Stage 4 every student at Trinity is given the opportunity to follow both the GCSE English and GCSE English Literature courses. We believe the AQA syllabus followed builds on the foundations laid at Key Stage 3 in terms of extending students' knowledge and experience of the core English skills: reading, writing and speaking and listening. To learn more about the components of the GCSE English and GCSE English Literature courses please visit our Key Stage 4 area.
The English Department here at Trinity also aim to broaden our students' experience through a wide range of activities both in the classroom and beyond. Extra curricular clubs such as young readers and writers are available, trips to the theatre are regularly organised and the annual English Week offers students the opportunity to participate in a number of organised events.
