Crafting Writing

Key Framework Objectives

  • R10 Analyse the overall structure of a text to identify how key ideas are developed e.g. through the organisation of the content and the patterns of language used.
  • S2 explore the impact of a variety of sentence structures.
  • S3 to make good use of the full range of punctuation including colons and semi-colons.
  • WR14 Develop and signpost arguments in ways that make the logic clear to the reader.
  • S&L7 Listen for a specific purpose, paying sustained attention and selecting for comment or question that which is relevant to the agreed focus.

  • AF4 Identify and comment on the structure and organisation of texts, including grammatical and presentational features at text level.
  • AF3 Organise and present whole texts effectively.
  • AF4 Construct paragraphs and use some cohesion within paragraphs.

Learning Outcomes - All students should be able to:

  • understand the key terms fiction and non-fiction.
  • identify a modal verb in a sentence.
  • explore the structure of fiction and non-fiction texts.
  • identify the use of figurative language e.g. simile and metaphor.

Homework areas for this unit will include the following:

  • weekly spelling/vocabulary test
  • recognising and using adjectives
  • basic commas
  • rules of speech punctuation.
  • reading for understanding
  • explore a range of ‘hooking’ techniques used in a story opening
  • comment on specific techniques used in a given short story
