At key stage 4 students have the opportunity to use a wide range of graphic skills with the view to making high quality prototypes. Students will use a wide range of techniques to create, develop and communicate solutions to problems. The solutions will be modelled in the most suitable material. Design solutions created by the student will mirror manufacturing techniques used in industry. Using a combination of computer aided design (CAD) and computer aided manufacture (CAM).
In year 10 students will be given a series of interesting and challenging modules around the themes of working for a client, i.e. working on a ‘new’ logo for a sports wear company and creating exciting promotional items to attract people’s attention. Students will produce a series of three dimensional design solutions in year 11
The examination board followed is AQA. The final assessment consists of two parts:
Terminal Examination - 40% of the final mark
Major Project Undertaken - 60% of the final mark
Homework is set on a weekly basis and will involve pupils working on their projects.
