Primary Sources

Secondary Sources

This is evidence from the time the historian is studying.
This is evidence from after the time the historian is studying.
Some primary sources are pieces of writing, e.g. a diary, government records, a newspaper.
An example of a secondary source is a school history textbook.
Some primary sources are not written, e.g. a photograph, a coin, a statue, a building.
Something you write about the Middle Ages or the Second World War could be a secondary source.
