Key Stage Three: Physical Education and Dance

The Department aims to ensure that all students in Years 7, 8 and 9 participate in abroad and balanced curriculum, which delivers the following areas of experience:

(i) Athletics

(ii) Games

(iii) Dance

(iv) Gymnastics

In addition to the above four areas, a fifth, comprising Outdoor Pursuits, is delivered within a restricted format during the Year 8 Residential Week in the Peak District.

Foundation Course

The Department also utilises the first term of Year 7, approximately 14 weeks, to recap on the areas of experience delivered at Key Stage Two. This is seen as important, given the large number of feeder primary schools from which students are accepted into Year 7 and also as an opportunity to assess and evaluate areas of individual’s strengths and weaknesses.

The activities included as part of this foundation programme include:

Swimming;

Games;

Dance;

Gymnastics;

Athletics.

The foundation programme outlined above will enable the Department to evaluate progress at Key Stage Two and identify areas of individual strength and weakness.
