Level 3 |
I can describe some places and the living things found in them. I know that plants need light, air and water and can explain what happens to the plant without (enough of) one of these. I know that all living things need food and that animals eat other animals or plants for energy. I can group animals into those that eat plants, those that eat animals and those that eat both. |
|
Level 4 |
I can identify differences between different habitats. I can describe how familiar organisms are suited to the habitat in which they are found. I know that green plants need sunlight to grow. I can write simple food chains and describe them. I can identify predator and prey. I know what happens if predators increase or decrease. I know animals have food preferences but can sometimes eat alternatives. I know microbes are important to get rid of dead organisms. |
|
Level 5 |
I can relate differences between different habitats to the organisms found in them. I can describe ways in which organisms are adapted to daily or seasonal changes in their environment and to their mode of feeding. I can describe food chains within an environment and combine these into food webs. I can explain food chain in terms of producer and consumers. I know ways organisms are adapted to their environment. I know that green plants make food using energy from sunlight & can name this process. |
|
Level 6 |
I can explain why a variety of habitats is needed in a community. I can describe how different organisms contribute to the community. I can link food chains to energy transfer. I can explain a possible outcome if part of the web is affected. I know the word equation for photosynthesis. I know that photosynthesis provides carbohydrates which are used as a chemical energy source for respiration. |

Level 7 |
I can describe and explain the effect on one organism in a food web if another organism increases or decreases. |
