Level 3 |
I can name some diseases which can be caught from other people I know jabs are a way of protecting against some diseases |
|
Level 4 |
I know ‘germs’ are microscopic organisms. I understand what a ‘microbe’ is. I know that microbes getting into your body can make you ill. I know some medicines can kill microbes but not all types of microbe are killed by all types of medicine. I know not all microbes are harmful. I know how microbes can enter the body. I know that immunisation is possible to protect against some diseases. |
|
Level 5 |
I know the body can protect itself by sealing cuts (blood clotting) and killing the microbes. I know our bodies naturally contain microbes. I know how diseases are transmitted. I can name some infectious diseases and describe how they can be transmitted. I can describe the role of immunisation (even ‘good’ drugs can be harmful if misused). |
|
Level 6 |
I can classify bacteria, fungi and viruses as micro-organisms, name some of the diseases they can cause and describe how they can be transmitted. I know that diseases are caused when microbes get into body cells and reproduce. Symptoms appear when enough microbes have grown. I can describe some of the defences the body has against disease. I can describe how immunity can be improved. I know why antibiotics are not always necessary. |
|
Level 7 |
I know how immunisation can improve immunity and can describe how antibiotics may be – specific & non specific. I understand how resistance to antibiotics may occur. I know how the body also combats disease by producing antibodies. I know the risks of sharing needles after injecting drugs. |
