9A - Inheritance and Selection

DNA

Use the table below to help you study this unit.

Level 3

I can link the features of a living thing to where it lives,

I can name the basic life processes.

I can use this knowledge to decide whether something is living, dead or non-living.

Level 4

I can identify similarities and differences between organisms of the same species and classify organisms into plants and animals.

I can classify into main groups: green/non-green plants, invertebrates.

I understand that classification makes it easier to identify an unknown specimen.

I can recognise examples of the five vertebrate groups based on their external features.

Level 5

I can identify some inherited characteristics and some influenced by environmental conditions.

I can describe sexual reproduction as the joining of two cells.

I can identify some characteristics of an animal which make the organism better suited to particular circumstances.

Level 6

I can identify some inherited characteristics and describe how some characteristics are influenced by environmental conditions.

I can describe how sexual reproduction results in genetic information being inherited from both parents and outline how these characteristics might be passed on.

I know some of the issues to be considered in relation to selective breeding

Level 7

I can explain how variation in organisms can be used to select organisms for breeding better varieties.

I can describe how selective breeding can result in offspring with particular characteristics.

I can recognise that asexual reproduction produces clones in plants (with agricultural + horticulture benefits) and animals.
