At key stage 4 students will work in a range of textile areas including fashion and furnishings. Skills which will be covered include garment-making, embroidery, patchwork, batik, appliqué and many others. They have the opportunity to design and make a range of items.
Students will also study textiles theory - fibres, fabrics, fabric enhancements, fabric finishes, components, systems planning and organisation, products and applications. There will be opportunities to use a range of CAD and CAM textiles machines.
Students will follow a foundation course throughout year 10. This will give students the scope to explore fabric design and enhance their skills in the manufacture of design solutions i.e. a garment. Students will be given the opportunity to design and make quality items, leading to success in Year 11.
The examination board followed is AQA. The final assessment consists of two parts:
Major Project Undertaken in Year 11 - 60% of the final mark
Terminal Examination - 40% of the final mark
Homework for year 10 is theory or practical based relating to the specific topics covered in the AQA Specification. All Year 11 homework is based on their coursework and from Easter onwards in Year 10.
