The Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre (CEOP) has launched a campaign to inform parents of the potential dangers of internet connecting presents likely to have been received over Christmas. PlayStations, Nintendo DS, mobile phones, iPod Touch etc. All can connect to the internet and promote network applications.
Children are increasingly using networking sites such Facebook and Myspace, Instant Messaging applications and Chat rooms to keep in touch with friends. But these can all pose a risk as you can't always be sure the person on the other side is who they say they are.
Think You Know? is a range of websites targeted at children, parents and teachers aimed at informing of them of the latest technologies and how to stay safe using them. There are resources for use by parents in the home, lesson ideas and resources (including video) for the classroom and activities for children. The site covers how to deal with online bullying, how to stay safe on social networks, how to use chat rooms safely, etc. It also gives information about how to report abuse and direct links to the CEOP online abuse reporting mechanism.
