What You will Learn: Year 7 | Year 9
Art
The following points are covered in Art:
- Some classes will produce mixed media work based on an urban landscape theme, influenced by John Piper. Other classes will produce collage work based on still life.
Assessment:
Assessment is through formal assessment of pupils work using National Curriculum criteria and National Curriculum levels.

Design & Technology
The following points are covered in Design Technology:
- All students will continue to focus on the following areas: Analysis of a product, for example, flat pack furniture.
- Formulate a design specification for a client. Students work will be photographed after being assessed.
Assessment:
Students will complete worksheets found in the student Log Book. Students will also be encouraged to use flow charts to show the different stages of making. The finished prototype will be assessed against the clients specification.

Drama
The following area is covered in Drama:
- Students are either looking at understanding characterisation and developing characters from script work looking at Problem Plays and
“That's What Friends Are For”, or exploring genre, communication, advertising and the media using improvisation and role play.
Assessment:
Assessment will be by ongoing observation by the teacher.

English
The following points are covered in English:
- To study a range of persuasive texts.
- Recognise the use of persuasive devices and employ them successfully e.g. repetition, rhetorical questions and lists of three.
- To discuss the effect on the reader of employing persuasive devices.
Assessment:
Writing Assessment: Sunscreen - Students Produce a piece of persuasive writing for a specific audience and purpose.

Enquiry Skills
The following points are covered in Enquiry Skills:
- Be able to use a variety of sources to select relevant information on the subject of conservation. Check all information sources for accuracy and be able to describe what I meant by plagiarism and bias.
- To be able to use a spreadsheet as a model to determine changing variables.
- To be able to control a device using a precise set of instructions. Describe and evaluate the use of computer controlled devices in society.
Assessment:
This is assessed by students producing a detailed bibliography acknowledging a variety of information sources, showing proof that permission has been sought to use images. Students also complete the following two projects: “Game On” and “Computer Control” which are assessed through National Curriculum ICT Levels.

Geography
The following points are covered in Geography:
- What is a settlement Hierarchy?
- Why were early settlements located in certain places?
- What is the environment and why does it need protecting?
Assessment:
Assessment consists of the following: Cambridge hierarchy exercise and Settlement site National Curriculum assessment.

The following points are covered in History:
- Why was there a Gunpowder Plot?
- Why was there a Civil War?
- Why were there different opinions about the execution of Charles?
Assessment:
Students are assessed by completing the following tasks: Fact sheet/ evidence based assessment, Letter by Charles defending/ explaining his views and students look at different interpretations and ask – are they reliable?

Languages
The following points are covered in Languages:
- Extend knowledge of grammar – particularly verbs and tenses.
- Develop knowledge of life in the foreign country.
Assessment:
Assessment takes various forms depending on the specific areas. This usually involves written tasks and a presentation (Oral and written).

Mathematics
The following points are covered in Mathematics:
Set 1
- Algebra: Solve linear equations with whole number coefficients.
- Shape Space Measure: Recognise congruent and similar shapes.
- Algebra: Calculate the gradient of a straight line
Set 2 & 3
- Algebra: Substitute numbers into simple formula.
- Shape Space Measure: Enlarge 2D shape by a positive scale factor and a centre of enlargement.
- Handling Data: Draw a simple scatter diagram.
Set 4
- Handling Data: Calculate mean, median, mode and range for small groups of data.
- Algebra 3: Recognise the equations of lines parallel to the X and Y axis.
Assessment:
Students knowledge of the above points is tested through End-of-Term tests linked to National Curriculum levels and a End-of-Unit test.

Music
The following points are covered in Music:
- Students will learn about the origins of blues music and be able to identify the main characteristics of the style.
- Students will learn how to write a blues song and perform within the style, including improvisation.
Assessment:
These are assessed in the following ways: Assessed performance and written group/listening test.

Physical Education
The following points are covered in Physical Education:
- Extend skills in Athletics, using specific equipment: Dance – prepare for specialist teaching in Year 9 e.g. vocabulary and movement. Games – specific codes not families of games. Gymnastics – develop greater body mastery.
- Access and participate in Inter-Form Competitions.
Assessment:
These are assessed by teacher levelling using Scheme of Work and QCA core tasks and points awarded to students participating in Inter-Form competitions.

The following points are covered in Religious Education:
- Students are able to explain the way in which people of different faiths celebrate Rites of Passage and the importance of those celebrations to that faith community.
Assessment:
Students are graded by completing a 'Rites of Passage' assessment.
