Our day will begin at 8.30 a.m. with earliest dismissal at 3.10 p.m. Teaching will occupy 25 hours of the week. Further timetable details will be provided if your child is accepted as a student at the school.
It is hoped that most students will take a school lunch. Dining is by cafeteria system but students may eat their own packed lunches. Students are not allowed off site at morning break or lunch time.
Information about free school meals may be obtained from the Manchester Benefits Service on (0161) 953 8377. Alternatively, parents may wait until the New Intake Parents’ Evening. Re-application is not necessary for students already receiving free meals at primary schools.
The school has adopted a uniform based on the Cathedral colours, which are red and black. It comprises a white shirt, school tie, black skirt or trousers, black sensible shoes, red v-neck sweater with motif for Years 7, 8 and 9 and black sweatshirt with motif for Years 10 and 11. Hairstyles should be conventional and of a natural colour.
Uniform for PE is also red and black. Full details are provided when a place
is offered. Ties and sweaters are sold through the school and the remaining
items are all standard and available through High Street shops.
The aim is to have a uniform that is smart, functional and inexpensive. The
policy is also to be sensitive to the religious and cultural traditions of
students’ families.
All items and equipment should be clearly marked and a substantial bag should
be brought to school to carry and protect expensive text books. Students are
also expected to provide basic items of stationery for lessons.
Neither girls nor boys may wear jewellery at school, except students whose ears have been pierced who may wear one pair of plain, gold studs (sleepers are not to be used at school). The wearing of a cross and chain is allowed by individual permission from the Head.
Under no circumstances may any jewellery be worn for physical education and the school can accept no responsibility for losses. Valuable possessions or large sums of money may not be brought into school. The school insurance policy does not cover damage to, or loss of, personal items.
Insurance cover for cycles and privately owned musical instruments is strongly advised. Neither the Governors nor the Authority can accept responsibility for damage or loss of any personal items.
The school is well-served by bus routes. Any student who lives more than 3 miles from the school is entitled to a free school travel pass upon application to their local authority.
