What is the Merit System?
Students are awarded merits for producing good work and for participating in activities within school. There are two types of Merits students can be awarded - both are listed below:
Achievement Merits – these will be awarded for good work in lessons/homework in the usual way. Merits will be awarded by with a proper stamp or sticker which is then initialled with the teachers code in your student planners. Students must ensure that this is done correctly as only genuine merits will be counted.
Citizenship Merits – these will be awarded by the adult supervising the activity either by forwarding a list of names to Mr Saunders or you may be given a ‘citizenship cheque’ which can be redeemed at the Trinity Trading shop. (note – cheques will not count towards totals unless used at the shop)
5 Merit Slips – these are awarded by your form teacher as usual as soon as you have achieved 5 merits – only slips validated with the correct term and year are valid (eg Summer 2009) –
You keep the 5 Merit Slip and it now can be used at the Trinity Trading shop. Only by doing this will the slip be entered into the raffle to be held once a term.

Question: How will you know whether merits are genuine or not?
Answer: Only merits awarded with correct stamp and staff signature will be counted. Student planners will be monitored by spot checks undertaken by Leadership team and Heads of House to make sure that they are correct.
Question: What can I exchange my merit slips for?
Answer: Merit slips can be exchanged for small items ‘costing’ 5 or 10 merits such as pens, high lighters etc – we are reviewing this with the Student Council and items will change. You will also be able to ‘donate’ merits towards a charitable cause for which you will be awarded a certificate and extra citizenship merits for your House. We are also going to trial exchanging merits for a privilege.
