Cross-curricular links in Maths and MFL

From teacher of MFL, Mr Hewitt:

“I recently took eight Year 9 students on a Maths / MFL event, arranged by Course Director of Maths, Mrs Carter, and hosted by Altrincham Girls Grammar School, in conjunction with the Liverpool Mathematical Society. The students were taken out of their comfort zones, interacting with students from six other Manchester schools, by asking them questions in French and Spanish as part of a ‘find someone who…’ activity. Most impressive of all, our students solved a range of 60 mathematical puzzles, where clues were given in French, German or Spanish. The students gained immense satisfaction from solving puzzles in languages they experienced for the first time – German!”
